The Elaienna Cluster

Potent Magicka

Magic is a significant part of the Elaienna cluster and many of its myriad peoples can access it in one form or another, either through natural bloodlines or through the Crysium Shards. From the humble scholar to the mightiest stellar lord, those with a bloodline are merely predisposed to a single type of magic inherently, and the shards allow those less fortunate to be just as powerful. Even races born without a natural capability for magic can learn it through the Shard Ritual. Magic is even more famously varied on the isolated world of Aldrin, where its Shard-rich nature makes magic take the central stage.

The Mysteries of the Gates

The Elaienna cluster lacks faster-than-light travel, its travel instead taking place at relativistic speeds within large sectors of space inhabited by the various factions, while enormous gateways of ancient design link these sectors together. Precious little is known of these gateways, save for the fact that their deactivation is all but impossible - having only been accomplished once through force of arms to destroy a gateway - and that new gateway connections come online irregularly, connecting new sectors to the wider cluster - or in the case of the most recent activation, reconnecting long-lost sectors to the cluster.

An Uncertain Future

War is rife across the cluster, its myriad sectors embroiled in conflicts both grand and minute, and its people spend more time bickering amongst themselves than planning for the future. For a time, this wasn't too problematic, but with the reactivation of the jump gate connection to Earth and the ensuing cold war between the Elaiennans and Terrans - a war which looks potentially liable to turn hot - and the constant threats of the enigmatic and dangerous AURA and the Vekh resuming activity, the cluster looks to be heading towards trying times, indeed.

The AGI Menace

The Elaiennan cluster is no stranger to Artificial Intelligence, with computer systems, starship command and control, and all sorts of other applications making use of it, a fact that is also true of the Terrans. Where things get spotty however, is AGI, or Artificial General Intelligence. AGI in many ways has become the flashpoint of discourse between the factions, with the AURA's rampant attacks and incursions being a problem for all involved. Many seek to understand AGI and hopefully put an end to the AURA that way. The Terrans know better.
